Bobcat Tennis Teams Host Weekend Classic

Weekend play will begin on Friday, Feb. 27 when the Bobcat women face Utah State at 10 a.m., followed the MSU-USU men’s match at 2 p.m. On Saturday, the Montana State men will play Gonzaga at 12 noon, while the Bobcat women will conclude play against Gonzaga on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The MSU men are one of the hottest teams in the Big Sky Conference, winning 27 consecutive matches in singles and doubles play. The Bobcat men have been led this season by Federico Ueltschi, who was named this week’s Big Sky Conference Player of the Week.
“The guys are playing great tennis and they especially like to protect the home-court,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “We were picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky and I think the guys will use that as motivation to exceed some people’s expectations of us.”
The Montana State women’s squad will look to get back into the win column after a tough weekend at Boise State, where the ‘Cats dropped three consecutive matches to west powers BSU, UC-Santa Barbara and Colorado State.
“We’re looking forward to being at home,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “Historically, we have had great matches with Gonzaga and we’ll be challenged by Utah State, as well. We’ll look to gain more match experience and confidence.”
