Montana State Women Chop Down ‘Jacks

Montana State junior Kati Burrows scored a team-high 21 points to lead three Bobcats in double-figures as MSU posted a 68-66 win over Northern Arizona, Thursday night in Walkup Skydome.
Burrows converted 7-of-15 from the field and went 7-of-9 from the free throw line to pace the Bobcats. Also reaching double-digits were Belinda Stubbs, who matched a career-high with 13 points, and Sheila Hutchison with 12.
“It was a great team victory,” said MSU head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “The kids gave a great effort and played a complete 40-minutes of basketball.”
Montana State (11-13, 3-8) weathered three NAU three-point attempts in the final 20-seconds to earn its second Big Sky road win of the year. With 4:22 remaining in the game, Burrows hit two free throws to give the Bobcats a 66-61 advantage.
Northern Arizona’s (10-14, 4-8) Vanessa Campillo then converted a pair of charity tosses with 1:53 left to cut the margin to 66-65. The Bobcats answered back as Stubbs converted a shot off the glass to give MSU a 68-65 lead with 1:41 remaining.
“We stayed tough down the stretch,” Potera-Haskins said. “We made the shots we needed and played great defense in the final few minutes.”
Northern Arizona was paced in the loss by Lacey Tolbert with 22 points, while Alyssa Wahl and Natalie Metz added 19 and 11, respectively.
For the game, Montana State shot 47 percent from the field and connected on 18-of-27 free throw attempts, while holding NAU to 34 percent from the field. The Bobcats also held a commanding 44-33 rebound advantage. Montana State was paced under the glass by Whitney Connolly with a game-high ten boards.
MSU will play at Sacramento State on Saturday.
