DALE KENNEDY QUOTES
“I like team scoring in track meets, I think it adds a very interesting element to track and field. A lot of people that don’t understand the intricacies of track and field can understand two teams competing against each other with a score attached. As important as team scoring a couple of duals is, there’s something more important this weekend. We need to get more kids qualified for the Big Sky meet. This is our last chance, so it’s an important meeting. We’ll have four Big Sky schools at the meet on Friday, and except for Northern Arizona they are really the four schools that take track very seriously. We need more qualifiers, and we need the athletes inside the top 12 to improve their marks to the point that they’re safe. This is a great last meet for us in terms of quality, but our kids need to remain calm under pressure. The kids need to remember to stay within themselves and perform well under pressure. The anxiety can cause you trouble, but you can also channel it the other way and use it to your advantage. I never thought I’d see the day where I’d sit here and say that there is a home advantage in track and field, but there sure is. The nature of the track, familiarity with the runways and the approaches, that stuff can make a real difference.”
