Bobcat Women Face #3 Baylor and Utah State

On The Air:
For the third straight season Dave Cowan will handle play-by-play duties of ALL regular and postseason Bobcat games on 103.5 KZMY-FM. Cowan will begin his broadcast with a pre-game show 20-minutes prior to tip-off.
The Land of Willie:
It’s fitting that the Bobcats are traveling to the Lone Star State and Willie Nelson’s backyard to begin its school record-breaking seven-game road-swing. No doubt that “On The Road Again” will become the team’s mantra until they return to the cozy confines of Worthington Arena on Jan. 27. Here is MSU’s next seven games: 12/29 at Baylor; 12-31 at Utah State; 1-4 at BYU; 1-6 at Utah Valley State; 1-14 at Montana; 1-20 at Sacramento State; and 1-22 at Northern Arizona.
Cat Chat:
Montana State and Baylor have met twice with each school owning a victory. Most recently, the Bobcats defeated Baylor 75-66 on Nov. 30, 2002 as part of the MSU-GranTree Inn Classic. Current Bobcat senior Kati Burrows is the only MSU athlete to play in the game. She recorded 15 points, four rebounds and four assists in the victory. Baylor was paced by current All-America candidate Steffanie Blackmon with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
The Scouting Report:
No. 3 Baylor has won nine consecutive games after dropping its season-opener to No. 1 LSU 71-70 at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. BU’s last outing before the holiday break was an 89-62 win over Florida on Dec. 19. The Bears have been led this season by its dynamic duo and All-America candidates Steffanie Blackmon and Sophia Young. Blackmon is averaging 16.8 points and 9.1 rebounds, while Young is chipping in 15.6 points and 9.3 boards.
Montana State Player of the Week:
Bobcat senior Briana Fields was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her effort in MSU’s 68-52 win over Texas State on Dec. 20. Fields, a 5-foot-11 forward, notched a career-high 14 points, including a four-of-seven effort from the field and a six-of-nine outing from the free throw line. In addition, Fields posted nine rebounds, while adding one assist, one blocked shot and one steal.
