MSU Wins Cat Fight

Scotta Morton scored 15 points to lead four Bobcats in double-figures and pace Montana State to a 68-52 win over Texas State on Monday in Bozeman.
Morton led the Bobcats on a 4-for-11 shooting effort in spite of 0-for-6 shooting from three-point range and a 7-for-13 effort at the line. Briana Fields and Alyssa Nelson each scored 14 points, a career-high for both. The Bobcats shot 47% from the field, and limited Texas State to 30% shooting. MSU also forced the TSU Bobcats into 25 turnovers.
The teams played on nearly even terms through most of the first half, but a late spurt gave Montana State a 38-29 halftime cushion. Back-to-back baskets by Nelson with 11:26 to play gave MSU a 15-point margin, but Texas State answered with a 14-5 run to draw to within 52-46 at 4:32 to play. A conventional three-point play by Fields and quick baskets by Morton and Burrows in transition gave MSU a 13-point lead, and Texas State could get no closer the rest of the way.
MSU travels to Baylor on December 29.
