Marvin Moss scored a season-high 18 points and Ja'Ron Jefferson added 15 to lead Montana State to and 87-75 win in a three-point shootout against Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon.
Jefferson's 15 points gives him four double-digit games in the last five, and his effort led five Bobcats in double-figures. Moss added six rebounds and a pair of assists. The two led Montana State's best offensive game of the season. The Bobcats scored a season-high 86 points, shot a season-high 53%, and had a season-low 10 turnovers. Northern Colorado drained 15 three-pointers, a season-high, but shot only 8-for-14 from the line and turned the ball over 15 times.
Montana State jumped to an 11-point lead after five-and-a-half minutes of play and led 21-7 with 13:29 to play. "Sometimes an early lead is the worst thing that can happen," Durham said. "In coaching we call that a false lead."
UNC erased the 'false lead' with a 20-6 run, and the teams played on even terms until midway through the second half. Leading by one point with 13:29 to play, Branden Miller and Ja'Ron Jefferson hit jumpers to key a 15-7 run that gave the 'Cats control of the game. A Marvin Moss three-pointer with 3:30 to play gave the Bobcats a double-digit lead it wouldn't surrender.
Montana State hit 10 three-pointers, the third straight with at least that many, and the team has turned the ball over only 25 times in the last two games while forcing 10 times that many. The Bobcats host San Jose State on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
