Kylee Zent, one of Montana's most decorated high school throwers who began this fall at the University of Notre Dame, has transferred to Montana State, MSU throws coach Mike Carignan announced Friday.
Zent, who graduated from Bridger High School last spring, will redshirt per NCAA transfer rules in 2005 and compete as a freshman in 2006. "Kylee has the best marks of any female thrower we've signed here," said Carignan, who built and coaches the most dominant throws program in Big Sky history. "We're very excited to have her on our team."
Zent won three Class C championships in both the shot put and discus at Bridger, where she was an honor student. She also finished second in each of these events once. Zent holds the all-class state meet shot put record (47-6) and the Class C state meet discus mark (141-3). She also earned all-state honors in volleyball, and played for a pair of state championship teams.
"Being at Notre Dame was a good experience, but I realized that it just wasn't for me," Zent said. "I'm very lucky to have the opportunity now to become a part of Montana State and the track program, and I'm excited to get started."
Zent's uncle Joe Moerkerke was a Big Sky Champion high jumper for the Bobcats in 1978, earning Athlete of the Meet honors at that year's Big Sky Championships. Zent will join Alli Jones of Harlowton, who recently signed a National Letter-of-Intent to become part of the MSU program next fall.
