Burrows Paces Bobcat Women to Exhibition Win

Burrows, a native of Bozeman, led four MSU players in double-figures. Also hitting double digits were Jaimey Tanner 12, Amanda DeHaan 12 and Hillary Scott 11.
Tanner, a senior from Kirtland, NM, went three-of-five from the field, including two three-pointers, while DeHaan, a true-freshman, scored all of her points in the second stanza, including a five-of-ten effort from the field, with a pair of treys.
“We were pretty excited and it took us awhile to settle down in the first-half,” said MSU interim head coach Greg Kudrna. “Once we got ourselves under control we played an excellent second half and put up over fifty points.
“Both our veterans and newcomers played a significant role in the victory,” Kudrna added. “Now, we have something to work from- a starting point for the rest of the season. Rebounding is one area we’ll be taking a hard look at.”
The Bobcats trailed NWBL until the 5:45 mark of the first half when Bobcat freshman Katie Proietti connected on a three-pointer to five MSU a 23-21 advantage. Montana State built the margin to 27-22, before NWBL closed out the opening period with an 11-4 run to enter intermission with a 33-31 margin.
In the second half, MSU reclaimed a 44-43 lead at the 14:54 mark on a Scotta Morton three-pointer. Montana State built the margin to 63-51 with 7:14 remaining as DeHaan sparked the run with ten points. NWBL got no closer than eight points down the stretch.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 48 percent from the field, including 51 percent in the second half. MSU was paced under the boards by senior Briana Fields with a team-high seven rebounds.
NWBL was led in the loss by Tysell Bozeman, who played at the University of Arizona, with 24 points.
MSU will host Baden Sports in its second exhibition next Monday night.
