Bobcat Cagers Open Up on Saturday

Mick Durham doesn't know what to see on Saturday when Montana State opens its two-game 2004-05 exhibition schedule, but he's looking forward to seeing it.
"It's time for us to play someone else," said Durham, entering his 15th season as Montana State's head coach. "We need to get out and run and work against someone else's offense and defense."
The Bobcats are expected to start a pair of familiar faces on Saturday, along with three newcomers. Junior Frank Brown started all 27 games at the point for MSU last year, averaging seve points, five assists, and four rebounds a game. Sophomore Nick Dissly didn't start at small forward last year, but saw extensive action. The two gives Durham a good core of experience, he said.
"Those two guys have been consistent and have worked hard during the preseason," Durham said. "We need those two and the seniors, Matt Towsley and Dennis Woodall, to provide leadership for this team."
Towsley won't play this weekend, as he rehabilitates a back injury. Junior college transfers Al Beye (center), Branden Miller (guard) and Marvin Moss (forward) join Brown and Dissly in the starting lineup. Durham said the combination gives the 'Cats a different look than it's had. "I think we've improved our athleticism and quickness," Durham said. "We could be a little more up-tempo and a little more aggressive."
The Bobcat coaching staff, which now features Johnny Brown, the first new full-time assistant at MSU in a decade, along with Scott Carson and James Clark, won't rush to force players into roles, Durham said. "We'll evaluate where we are after this game, and after the next exhibition," he said. "We have a lot to look at, with seven new players."
Tipoff Saturday is 7:05 pm in Worthington Arena.
