Burrows and Morton Lift Bobcat Women to Win Over Wolverines

Burrows, a 5-foot-10 senior, connected on seven-of-15 from the field and went 11-of-14 from the free throw line. She also added a team-high eight rebounds, along with three assists and a steal. Morton, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, converted six-of-13 from the floor, including three three-pointers.
“We had been struggling with our scoring and it was nice that somebody (Morton) stepped-up along side Kati (Burrows),” said MSU interim head coach Greg Kudrna. “We new it was going to be a hard-fought game and I’m pleased with our effort both defensively, and especially, offensively.”
Montana State (2-2) took its first lead of the game at 10-8 following consecutive three-pointers by Morton and Katie Proietti. Utah Valley State (1-5) answered with a 10-2 run to establish an 18-12 advantage at the 10:04 mark of the first stanza. MSU then went on a 22-9 scoring run to take a 34-27 lead on a Hillary Scott basket. The Bobcats entered intermission with a 34-29 lead.
In the second half, UVSC opened with an 11-5 run to take a 40-39 lead at the 15:09 mark on a Jessica Scabby field-goal. With the score tied at 53-all with 5:16 remaining, the Bobcats reeled off a 16-5 run down the stretch to secure the victory.
For the game, Montana State shot 39 percent from the field and went 20-of-27 from the free throw line. And, for the first time this season the Bobcats out-rebounded its opponent, holding a 41-40 advantage over the Wolverines.
UVSC was paced in the loss by Kaydee Allred with 15 points and five rebounds.
Montana State will host UC Irvine, Friday night in Worthington Arena.
