Bobcats Land Golf Standouts

Tessa Stevenson from Kalispell and LaRae Smith of Sierra Vista, Ariz., have signed National Letters-of-Intent to join the Montana State golf program next fall, MSU coach Brittany Basye announced on Tuesday.
Stevenson averaged 78.6 this year at the Montana State Women's Amatuer, and competed in several American Junior Golf Association Tournaments. "Tess has a great short game, with a putting stroke average under two," Basye said. "She has been coached by Alice Ritzman, a former LPGA champion, throughout high school, so I know she has been trained for the collegiate level of golf. She has the tools to help her become a top college golfer, and with these tools she will contribute greatly to our team."
Smith finished sixth at the State 5A Championship in Arizona this fall, and won the 5A Regional Championship in Tucson. She wasn't beaten in her high school matches this summer. She was chosen player of the year in her region, which includes Tucson. "LaRae has all the qualities of a great golfer," Basye said. "She has played with the best junior golfers around, and plays at that level. LaRae will immediately contribute to our team and will bring with her the competitiveness that will bring with her the competitiveness that will take our team to the next level.
"I am excited about our recruites this year. Each will contribute something different to our program, which makes our outlook real strong," Basye said.
