Montana State (1-1) was paced in the loss by Kati Burrows, who recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and ten rebounds. Also contributing to the Bobcat effort was freshman Amanda DeHaan, who finished with nine rebounds.
For the game, MSU shot 24 percent from the field, while the Rajun Cajuns hit for 41 percent, including a red hot 48 percent in the second stanza. Louisiana-Lafayette (2-0) also held a 48-39 advantage in rebounding.
“We struggled finding our shot,” said MSU first-year head coach Greg Kudrna. “Louisiana-Lafayette did a nice job of mixing up its defenses, and as a young team, we didn’t adjust very well.
“We’ll take a look at the tape (of the game) and learn,” Kudrna added. “We had some openings, but didn’t take advantage of them.”
The Bobcats held a 13-12 lead at the 6:29 mark of the first half on a Burrows lay-in; however, Louisiana-Lafayette closed out the first stanza on a 10-4 run to take a 22-17 advantage at intermission.
The Rajun Cajuns opened the second period on an 8-2 run to build a 30-19 lead at the 16:56 mark on a field-goal by Petrakova. MSU closed to within 30-26 on a Scotta Morton basket with 14-minutes remaining. Louisiana-Lafayette answered with a 20-7 run over the next nine-minutes to secure the victory.
MSU will host Kent State next Saturday night in Worthington Arena.
