Malyurek Guides Montana State Spikers over Lumberjacks

The 6-foot outside hitter from Big Horn, Wyo., served 11 straight points to rally the Bobcats from a 19-15 deficit in the third game to lift MSU to a 30-25, 30-24, 30-25 victory over Northern Arizona, Thursday night in quarterfinal action.
“Meggie Malyurek stepped-up and is the reason we won,” said second-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “It was kind of a lackluster performance. It seemed like we were just going through the motions. We had some people standing around, but Meggie kept us in there, and that’s the effort we’re going to need from everyone tomorrow night.”
Montana State (19-7) will meet No. 2 Sacramento State Friday night at 6 p.m. in semifinal action.
MSU sophomore Kim Stonehouse paced the Bobcats with 16 kills and a .467 attack mark, while Malyurek added 14 kills, a .306 attack mark and seven digs. Setter Kamber Kelly dished out 38 assists and chipped in 11 digs. Kandice Kelly led all defensive players with a match-high 15 digs, while Megan Zanto ended the night with five blocks.
MSU opened the match taking a 20-15 lead in the opening frame, before Northern Arizona (7-19) tied the game at 22-all. The Bobcats then rattled off an 8-3 run and won the set following a Lumberjack service error.
In the second stanza, the Bobcats built a 23-13 margin and won the game on a Malyurek kill. In the final game, MSU found themselves trailing 19-15 before Malyurek went back to the service line. When she was finished, Montana State held a 26-19 advantage. The Bobcats won the match on a Zanto and Kamber Kelly block.
NAU was paced in the loss by Ellie Butterfield with a match-high 20 kills
