Bobcat Game-Day Notebook vs. EWU

Today is Senior Day at Montana State, the last home game for a group of 13 Bobcat seniors. Senior Day is celebrated across the college football landscape, and is one of the great traditions in sport.
Great stories abound on senior day... walk-ons who made good, All-Americas bound for future glory, Academic All-Americas bound for medical school, hometown kids playing for their favorite team. MSU has no shortage of those stories, either.
But in all of college football, Senior day will be no more special than it will to a pair of Bobcats. Dusty Daws and Matt McCullough get to live a Field of Dreams moment, when their dads, both one-time Bobcat stars, escort them to midfield.
Dusty Daws was a wrecking ball defensive end for MSU in the early '70s. Ron McCullough was a tough-as-nails tight end for the 'Cats in the mid '70s. Both men were dominant, all-Big Sky type performers. Their sons are not.
Dusty Daws has made his mark primarily as a long snapper, perhaps the best in college football. He has also selflessly moved from tight end to the o-line and back, several time, helping out where needed. Like his father, Dusty prepped at Bozeman High.
Matt McCullough waited nearly five years, but the receiver from Great Falls finally caught a pass in a Bobcat uniform at NAU. He has also helped out this year as MSU's holder, but his primary contribution throughout his career came on scout teams.
These two guys won't be remembered as great players, but they'll always be remembered as great Bobcats. And they'll always stand for all the great things about college football. And Senior Day.

A pair of would-be seniors will watch SeniorDay from the sidelines today. Lawrence Figureoa is playing as a junior this year. He received a medical redshirt after missing much of last season with an injury. Kahiam Hunter has missed the entire season with a shoulder injury, and will take this as a redshirt year.

Montana State's defense registered two more red zone stops last weekend. The Bobcats lead the league in that category, allowing teams to score after moving inside the MSU 20 yard line on 58.3% of their possessions.

Today's game is the third of three straight Senior Days in which MSU will participate. The Bobcats were obliging guests last week at Sacramento State, and also play Montana in the regular season finale in Missoula next week.

N new injury news surfaced this week. Joe Hirst is expected to start at right tackle, with Jeff Bolton moving to left, although that is contingent on how Hirst's knee feels after warm-ups. Blake Wolf should be good to go, as well.
