Bobcats Fall to Eastern

Eastern Washington overcame a 21-point second-half deficit to beat Montana State 51-44 in overtime on Saturday in Bobcat Stadium in spite of an historic effort by Travis Lulay. MSU's junior quarterback, rolled up 575 yards of total offense, the fourth-best game in Big Sky Conference history.
With the win, Eastern clinched a share of the Big Sky Championship and likely an NCAA Division I-AA Playoff berth. MSU was eliminated from championship and playoff consideration.
Montana State led 31-10 early in the third quarter, when Lulay found Rick Gatewood on a 41-yard scoring pass. From that point on, EWU outscored Montana State 41-13.
Both teams put on prolific offensive performances. Eastern gained 536 yards of total offense, while the Bobcats posted a school-record 683 yards. Lulay threw for 432 yards, his fifth straight 300-yard game and the fifth-best day in school history. Bobcat tailback Justin Domineck gained 143 yards on the ground, a career-high, and Lulay had his first career 100-yard rushing day, gaining 110. Lulay also scored a touchdown and threw for three. Eddie Sullivan (143 yards) and Rick Gatewood (146) each passed the 100-yard receiving mark.
Eastern Washington tied the score with 8:13 to play in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Toke Kefu, Lulay led MSU to a score on a 32-yard strike to Rick Gatewood with 1:17 to play. Eastern's Eric Kimble caught a fiv-yard pass from Erik Meyer to send the game to overtime. EWU scored on its second play, then held MSU. The Bobcats failed to score on four tries from inside the five.
