Montana State Cross Country Teams Finish Eighth at NCAA Regional

The Montana State men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished eighth at the 2004 NCAA Mountain Region Championships, Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcat women were paced by freshman Elisabeth Driscoll of Bozeman, who finished 20th, completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:41.9. Also finishing for MSU were Mayra Morgado, 22nd, 21:44.4; Ashley Hadway, 37th, 22:05.1; Kayla Larson, 66th, 22:54.5; Stephanie Carter, 73rd, 23:05.5; and Carrie Gottschalk, 104th, 24:00.2.
Driscoll and Morgado earned all-Mountain Region honors for their efforts on Saturday.
“The women’s team really put it together,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “I’m really excited about the future of this team.”
Colorado’s Renee Metivier won the women’s individual title, covering the course in a time of 20:05.4.
Metivier led the Buffaloes to the team title with 32 points, followed by Brigham Young 54, Colorado State 129, Utah State 129, Wyoming 154, Northern Arizona 196, Weber State 202, MSU 211, Utah 247, Air Force 264, Texas Tech 264, New Mexico 306, Nevada 337, UTEP 357, Montana 375 and Idaho State 429.
The Montana State men were paced by senior Casey Jermyn, who finished 31st overall in the ten-kilometer with a clocking of 30:57.1 He was followed by Kevin Clary, 35th, 31:05.9; Jonathan Gibson, 39th, 31:09.9; Josh Ricardi, 50th, 31:30.8; Nick Green, 75th, 32:19.6; and Joe Wirtz, 76th, 32:24.1.
“We came into the meet ranked eighth and we left in eighth,” Kennedy said. “Kevin Clary and Josh Ricardi had their best races of the season, and Casey Jermyn, who was battling sickness, really gutted-out a solid performance.”
New Mexico’s Matt Gonzales won the men’s individual crown with a time of 29:45.1.
Colorado won the men’s team title with 40 points, followed by BYU, 62, Air Force 106, UNM 136, Colorado State 138, Northern Arizona 182, Utah State 184, MSU 220, Southern Utah 252, Utah 254, Idaho State 264, Weber State 297, Texas Tech 347, Montana 362 and Wyoming 381.
