The setter from Roundup completed her career on the Shroyer Gym floor with 31 assists, 15 digs, six kills and two solo blocks to pace the Bobcats to a 30-25, 30-20, 30-19 win over Big Sky leading Eastern Washington, Saturday night.
“There’s no one else I would’ve wanted to play on Senior Night than Eastern Washington,” Kelly said. “Senior Night was special, but defeating Eastern Washington was even sweeter.”
Montana State (19-7, 10-4) made it a clean sweep at home this season, going 7-0 in Big Sky Conference play and defeating all league opponents by identical 3-0 margins—both were a first for the Bobcat volleyball program.
Aside from Kelly’s effort, junior Megan Zanto notched a match-high 12 kills, while hitting .357 from the field and adding two digs. For the second straight match, the Bobcats had five players in double-digit digs, led by Kandice Kelly with a team-high 17 saves.
Also reaching double-digit dig totals were Kim Stonehouse 15, Kelly 15, Meggie Malyurek 12 and LeAnn Kinvig with ten.
The Bobcats also held the Big Sky’s most potent offense to only .006 from the field, a season low for Eastern Washington. MSU won every statistical category in the match.
“That was without a doubt our best defensive weekend of the season,” said second-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “We served very tough and kept Eastern Washington out of a good rhythm.”
Eastern Washington was paced in the loss by Keva Sonderen with nine kills.
The Bobcats will travel to Cheney, Wash., for the Big Sky Tournament on Thursday, where they’ll face Northern Arizona in the first-round.
