Also contributing to the Montana State (17-7, 9-4) attack was Meggie Malyurek with ten kills and ten digs. The Bobcats were paced at the net by Megan Zanto with a match-high seven blocks. Senior setter Kamber Kelly dished out 38 assists, while adding five kills and hitting .364 from the field.
“Defensively, I thought we played one of our best matches of the season,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “Kandice (Kelly) did a great job running down a lot of balls, and the other kids also did an excellent job keeping us in each point with their digging and blocking.”
Kandice Kelly finished the match with 27 digs to lead five Montana State players in double-digits. Also hitting double-figure digs were Kim Stonehouse 13, and Kinvig, Malyurek and Kamber Kelly with ten, apiece.
With her 27 digs, Kandice Kelly became MSU’s all-time single-season digs leader. The sophomore from Roundup has 386 digs this fall, surpassing the old mark of 379 set by Stephanie Laya in 1999.
Portland State (13-13, 5-8) was paced in the loss by Melissa Osterloh with 12 kills and ten digs.
Montana State will close out the regular-season hosting league-leading Eastern Washington, Saturday night in Shroyer Gym.
