‘CAT-GRIZ, PART I: The Montana State volleyball squad will play only one match this week, and it will be a big one at that. The Bobcats will travel to Missoula on Friday to face intra-state rival Montana, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in UM’s West Auxiliary Gym. The Bobcats own the all-time series 41-38 dating back to the 1976 season. The two rivals split their series last year, each winning on their home-court; however, MSU has won seven of the last ten meetings.

CAT-CHAT: Taking a look at the Big Sky statistics and a couple of numbers jump out. The Bobcats, who have led the league in blocking the past four years, are dead last averaging 2.11 per game. However, for the first time ever, Montana State leads the Big Sky in digs, averaging 19.00 per game...MSU held perennial Big Sky power Sacramento State to only 61 points last Friday night. It was a season-low point total for the Hornets...Defensively, the Bobcats had a great weekend against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona, holding both opponents to .074 from the field. In addition, MSU out-dug Sacramento State 65-44, while holding a 50-39 advantage over the Lumberjacks...Montana State also served notice from the end-line recording 16 aces on the weekend, including an 11-2 advantage over Sacramento State. Junior middle blocker Megan Zanto notched a career-high six aces against Sacramento State.
BIG SKY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kamber Kelly had another outstanding weekend as the Bobcats swept perennial Big Sky power Sacramento State and Northern Arizona in Shroyer Gym. In Friday’s 3-0 win over the Hornets, Kelly averaged 12.3 assists, 4.33 digs and 1.17 kills per game, while notching three blocks and hitting .278. In the 3-0 win over the Lumberjacks on Saturday, Kelly averaged 14.3 assists, 2.67 kills and three digs per game, to go along with four blocks and a .700 hitting percentage. The 5-foot-9 native of Roundup finished the week hitting an impressive .429, while averaging 2.50 kills, 13.33 assists, 3.67 digs and 1.17 blocks per outing. The senior also added three aces. With 80 total assists last week, Kelly also moved into 18th on the all-time Big Sky assists chart with 3,298 career assists. The Big Sky Conference honor was Kelly’s second of the season.
