MSU Ends Skydome Jinx, Tops Jacks

On Halloween eve, Montana State performed an exorcism in the Walkup Skydome. The Bobcats scored on all eight of its first-half possessions en route to a 60-14 win over NAU on Saturday. The victory was Montana State’s first in the Skydome since 1979, and only its second ever.
“I don’t know if we’re that good, and I do know that they’re not that bad,” said MSU coach Mike Kramer. “We just caught them.”
Travis Lulay triggered the Bobcat offense, and got the team going early. The junior signal caller, who has been named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week twice in the last 12 days, executed a five-play scoring drive to open the game, and after a Bobcat stop led the team on a 12-play drive as MSU claimed a 13-0 lead.
“We just came out and executed early,” Lulay said. “NAU is a really good football team, and we knew that they would keep coming at us.”
On Northern Arizona’s next two drives, Toph Grenfell grabbed turnovers that led to MSU scores. The junior safety recovered a Jason Murrietta fumble on a fourth-and-one to set up a 41-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Sullivan for a 19-0 Bobcat lead. Then, Grenfell intercepted a Murrietta pass, and EJ Cochrane nailed a short field goal.
In all, Montana State rolled up 411 yards in the first half, including a 313-yard passing effort by Lulay on 16-for-23 passing. He had three TD strikes in the first half. Justin Domineck was also effective. The junior tailback rushed 19 times for 79 yards.
MSU rolled up season-high totals of 541 yards and 23 first downs, and Lulay had his third straight game over 300 yards passing. The ‘Cats passed for 379 yards and rushed for 162.
