“I give our kids a lot of credit for their effort,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “They fought for every ball, and even though we came up short we played hard this past weekend.
“We need to regroup and get ready for Montana on Friday night.”
Also contributing to the Montana State (15-7, 7-4) attack were Kim Stonehouse and Megan Zanto with 13 and ten kills, respectively. MSU notched a season-high 104 digs, and were paced by Kandice Kelly 25, Malyurek 24 and Kamber Kelly 20.
Kamber Kelly became MSU’s all-time career digs leader in the match, breaking the mark of 1,183 held by Stephanie Laya (1997-2000). Kelly’s current total is 1,200 saves.
In addition, freshman middle blocker Raelene Purnell, who filled in for injured sophomore Angela Wiebe, finished with seven kills, a .357 attack mark and a team-high seven blocks.
Sacramento State (20-6, 8-2) was paced in the win by Atlee Hubbard with 21 kills and 15 digs.
Montana State will host Montana, Friday night in Worthington Arena.
