Bobcat Football Game-Day Notes

Mike Kramer spent much of the week telling anyone who would listen that Montana State hasn't lost 12 straight games at Flagstaff's Walkup Skydome because of a curse, or a jinx, or bad luck, or bad lighting, or anything else.
The Bobcats, Kramer says, keep losing at Flagstaff because NAU has been pretty good. And, in large part, because the Bobcats haven't.
Some pretty strong evidence exists to support that claim.
Since MSU last won at Flagstaff, in 1979, the Bobcats have met NAU at the Walkup Skydome 12 times. Combining MSU's record on the day it met NAU those 12 times, the Bobcats are 25-45, and just three times entered the game with a winning record.
Northern Arizona, on the other hand, have a combined mark of 34-34. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the two seasons MSU seemingly had the best chances of winning in Flagstaff were 1989, when 2-7 NAU roared back from a 28-3 deficit to beat 4-6 MSU 35-31, and 2000, when NAU limped into the game at 2-4 but hammered the soon-to-be 0-11 Bobcats 32-9.

Bobcat cornerback Kory Austin's status remains a game-time situation. He has missed most of the last four games with a hip pointer.

The Bobcat football team ate lunch on Friday at Friday's Front Row Grill inside Bank One Ballpark, home stadium of the Arizona Diamondbacks. After lunch, the team traveled to Flagstaff by bus and practiced at the Skydome.

Tonight's game marks the 16th straight year and the 17th time overall that Mike Kramer and Jerome Souers have faced each other from opposing sidelines. Souers, who was Montana's defensive coordinator from 1986-97, is 3-3 against Kramer with both as head coaches, 6-4 against teams on which Kramer served as a head coach, and including meetings with both as assistant coaches Souers holds a 10-6 advantage.
