Bobcat Game Day Notes

On a stunning autumn afternoon, with the fall colors in full evidence, football fans in Pocatello will spend three-plus hours inside Holt Arena this afternoon. Montana State opens its conference season against 0-1 Idaho State, and the Bengals have talked a lot about desparation and urgency this week. ISU has beaten MSU three straight times in Pocatello.

Montana State enters the game decidedly short-handed on defense. Kory Austin will play after missing last weekend's game with a concussion, but Kahiam Hunter and Eddie Smith will likely miss the season with his injuries, and reserve Martin Henderson did not make the trip to Pocatello.

MSU's paucity of pass defenders will not deter Bobcat defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski from calling his game. "We'll do what we do," he said, indicating that fans could expect more zone, as has been the case in MSU's first three games.

Ryan Force will make his third career start today, his first as a cornerback. Force joins Andre Fuller as starting corners, but when Kory Austin enters the lineup Force will slide back to safety.

Offensive coordinator Don Bailey will shuffle the Bobcat receiver group today. Rick Gatewood will start at the slot after missing last week's game instead of Brandon Roosevelt, and Eddie Sullivan will start at the Z spot. Morris Milton is slatede to start at running back, but Justin Domineck is available.

The initial result of Idaho State's closed practices this week is a surprise starter at running back. True freshman Josh Barnett will be pulled off redshirt and make his first appearance as a starter, while previous starter David Beverly moves to cornerback. He is expected to play.
