Everyone knows that Mike Kramer is the longest-tenured Big Sky Conference head coach, and that Kramer has been a part o the league for most of his adult life. In the 33 years since he joined the Idaho Vandals as a freshman lineman in 1972, kramer has been in the Big Sky Conference for 24 years.
Do you know, however, who has the second-longest tenure among Big Sky head coaches? Try Tim Walsh of Portland State, who Kramer will match wits with today at Bobcat Stadium. Walsh has been PSU's head coach since 1993, and he masterfully shepherded the program through the transition into Division I and into the Big Sky Conference.
"We're the old guys in the league right now," Kramer laughs. Walsh owns a 6-4 edge in head-to-head matchups. "Tim's teams are well-coached and well-prepared, and it's fun to compete against him."

Never is a team more dangerous than when it has one conference loss. After suffering its inital league defeat of any given season, a team stands with one foot still in the conference title chase, but with one foot definitely out. Portland State becomes Montana State's third straight opponent with one Big Sky loss this season.

MSU is 4-2 in Bobcat Stadium in the past three seasons against teams that play their home games on artificial turf, as does Portland State.

Today's game will be the first daytime kickoff of the season for Portland State. The Bobcats have yet to play under the lights.

Cornerback Kory Austin is doubtful for today's game. The hip pointer suffered last week against Weber State has bothered him throughout the week. Ryan Force is expected to start at cornerback again, with Toph Grenfell and Corky Lnidsay lining up at safety.
