Gibson Paces Bobcat Harriers at Pre-Nationals

Gibson, who finished 54th overall, covered the course in a time of 24:55.1. He was followed by Tony Bachmann, 81st, 25:10.3, Casey Jermyn, 103rd, 25:20.3, Kevin Clary, 114th, 25:24.2, Josh Ricardi, 123rd, 25:31.4, Caleb Ambrose, 188th, 26:08.4, and Joe Wirtz, 190th, 26:08.9.
“We’re a better team than what we demonstrated in this race,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “The exciting thing is that we had a 36-second split between Nos. 1-5, and that is the smallest split we’ve had this season. We just had the whole group too far back.
“Now, we just need to regroup and get ready for the Big Sky Championships,” Kennedy added.
Stanford won the White Race with 77 points. Big Sky Conference rival Northern Arizona finished 9th overall with 348 points, while MSU notched 475.
Stanford’s Ryan Hall won the individual title with a time of 23:54.4.
The Bobcat women were paced in their race by senior Mayra Morgado, who finished 91st overall in a time of 22:08.1. She was followed by Elisabeth Driscoll, 129th, 22:27.2, Ashley Hadway, 139th, 22:32.6, Caroline Gottschalk, 193rd, 23:04.0, Kayla Larson, 228th, 23:37.5, Stephanie Carter, 240th, 23:53.5, and Athlene Allred, 241st, 23:54.4.
“Mayra Morgado had her best race of the season,” Kennedy said. “If you put our top three runners head-to-head with other Big Sky racers in the meet, we finished fourth, seventh and eighth, respectively. I think that will serve us well for the Big Sky Championships, and Mayra, Elisabeth and Ashley all have shots at all-conference honors.
“On the down side, we need to get our split lower than the 89-seconds we had in this race.”
Stanford also won the women’s Blue Race with 49 points. Big Sky opponent Weber State placed 26th with 676 points, while MSU ended with 780 and Montana, 36th, 878.
