Bobcats Rally Again, Win in OT

Travis Lulay threw for a career-high 375 yards, rallying Montana State from a fourth-quarter deficit to a stunning 31-24 victory over Portland State in Bozeman on Saturday.
With Montana State trailing 21-10 early in the fourth quarter, Lulay found Rick Gatewood on a 42-yard touchdown pass. Justin Domineck scored from one yard out as time expired to tie the game at 24, then Domineck scampered in with the game-winner from 17 yards out in the first overtime period to help MSU secure the win.
"It was an excellent call by offensive coordinator Don Bailey," Kramer said of Domineck's winning score. "We ran it once early in the fourth quarter and missed a block, but we didn't make that mistake (on the touchdown)."
That MSU even had a chance to win the game in overtime seemed improbable for most of the game. PSU scored on its first two drives, and led 14-3 at halftime. At that point, the Vikings had gained 215 yards to Montana State's 152. MSU had only six first-half first downs.
"Nope," said Bobcat center Zack Wolf of the slow starts which have plagued MSU all season, "I have no idea."
The Bobcats struck quickly in the second half, with Lulay finding senior receiver Eddie Sullivan on a 62-yard strike that set up a Domineck three-yard run. On the first drive of the first drive of the fourth quarter Lulay found Rick Gatewood for a 42-yard TD to close the gap to 21-17. Eric Azorr nailed a 43-yard field goal on the next drive to give Portland State a one touchdown lead.
With 1:55 to play, the Bobcats took over at their own 18. Despite the daunting task at hand, Lulay said he wasn't concerned. "I really do just feel more confident at times in the two-minute drill," he said. "The defense can be on their heels. I think our wide-outs feel the same way."
Lulay connected with Gatewood on an 11-yarder on the first play, then converted a big third-and-10 by finding Sullivan for 13 yards. A play later, he hit Sullivan for 28 yards, then found him for passes of five and six. Once in the red zone, Lulay went to Domineck for a five-yarder, then hit Gatewood for gains of six and seven. Domineck finished the drive with his one-yarder.
On the game-tying drive, Lulay and Sullivan combined for four passes for 52 yards. MSU's catch-up mode produced some big numbers. Lulay's 375 yards was a career high, and Sullivan (140) and Rick Gatewood (104) each had their first 100-yard days.
