Bobcat Spikers Head to Pacific Northwest

THE GREAT NORTHWEST: The Montana State volleyball squad will continue its play away from the friendly confines of Shroyer Gym when they travel to Cheney, Wash., Friday, Oct. 15 to face Eastern Washington University in a battle for first place in the Big Sky Conference. The match is slated for EWU’s Reese Court with first serve at 8 p.m. (MST). The Bobcats will conclude their three-match road swing at Portland State Univeristy on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m., in PSU’s Stott Center. CAT-CHAT: The Bobcats will face Eastern Washington on Friday night in Cheney. The Eagles hold a 33-18 advantage in the all-time series, with the last Bobcat victory coming on Sept. 22, 2001, a run of six straight for EWU. Last year, in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament, the Bobcats took Eastern Washington to five games, before falling 15-10 in the final set. Megan Zanto pounded down a career-high 26 kills in the match...MSU also trails Portland State in the all-time series 20-17; however, the Bobcats have won the last 14 meetings between the two schools...PSU head coach Jeff Mozzochi was Miya Malauulu’s collegiate coach for five seasons at Oregon State...Meggie Malyurek recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs at Montana. Setter Kamber Kelly leads the team with ten double-doubles...MSU received a big contribution from its middle blockers in the 3-0 victory in Missoula. Megan Zanto and Angela Wiebe combined for 18 kills, a .405 attack mark and seven blocks...Head Coach Miya Malauulu is third in terms of winning percentage among Big Sky coaches.
MONTANA STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kandice Kelly, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Roundup, Mont., was named Montana State Player of the Week for her effort in MSU’s 3-0 victory over Montana, last Friday night. Kelly led all Montana State players with 13 digs for a 4.33 digs per game average. In addition, MSU’s starting libero served up a match high three aces. Kelly has notched eight aces in the last four matches. For the season, she has registered 225 digs, and is on pace to match last year’s total of 331 saves.
