'Cats Reach Milestones on Thursday

Montana State's 61-54 win over Portland State Thursday was a game of milestones.
Bobcat coach Mick Durham won a Big Sky Conference game for the 102nd time in his career, which ties the long-time Bobcat coach for the most wins in league history. Bobby Dye, who coached at Boise State from 1983-95, also had 102 wins in Big Sky games.
With just over three minutes to play in the game, Jason Erickson hit a short jumper in the paint to expand MSU's lead to 52-45. That shot gave Erickson 1,000 career points. He finished with 1,0004, and is the 31st player in school history to pass the 1,000 point mark.
In spite of those memorable personal achievements, there was only one figure either Durham or Erickson was interested after the game.
One and oh.
"The win was what was important," Durham said after the game. "The personal stuff is for a different time."
Erickson concurred. In fact, he didn't even realize he was closing in on the milestone.
Erickson's historic shot, like so many he has hit in his spectacular career, was a big one in the context of the game. But it was bigger in a historical context, and he is on pace to finish with somewhere around 1,200 career points, which would put him in the top 20 of the school's scoring list.
Durham was quick to praise Erickson -- "Jason played well on both ends of the floor," he said -- but wasn't interested in dwelling on personal achievements.
"It's great to get the first league win out of the way, and winning on the road is always important," he said. "This was a good win."
