Erin Jones Breaks Montana State Record in Pentathlon at Bobcat Multi Meet
Jan. 8, 2004 -- BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Montana State track standout Erin Jones set a new Bobcat school record in the pentathlon notching 3,803 points, Thursday afternoon at the MSU Multi Meet in Worthington Arena. Jones, a junior from Harlowton, broke the old mark of 3,761 set by Peggy Travis in 1980. Her mark was also 103 points over the NCAA provisional standard.
Thursday’s pentathlon marked the first time the event has ever been held indoors at MSU. The NCAA added the event to the 2004 indoor championships, along with the men’s heptathlon.
Jones had her best event in the 55-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.12 for 939 points. She also won the high jump, shot put and 800-meters.
Jones was followed in the pentathlon by Shannon Shelby, UM, 3,161; Bailey Cox, UM, 3,135; Kelsey Kirkpatrick, MSU, 2,985; Cassie Nollmeyer, MSU, 2,951; and Carla Breuer, UM, 2,835.
Andrew Levin of Montana holds the first day lead in the heptathlon with 2,885 points. He is followed closely by Steven Hodge, MSU, 2,719. The men’s event was highlighted by former UM standout Brian Anderson, who recorded a leap of 7 ½ in the high jump. Anderson is preparing for the USTF Indoor Championships.
The men’s heptathlon will conclude on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Worthington Arena
