Northern Arizona Women Use Quick Start to Chop Down Bobcats

Northern Arizona (8-10, 2-4) opened the game on a 21-7 run and built its largest lead of the game at 35-15 at the 7:06 mark on a Tolbert field-goal. Montana State (9-9, 1-4) used a 19-5 run over the final seven minutes to close the margin to 40-34 at intermission.
In the second stanza, NAU opened the period on a 9-4 run to take a 49-38 advantage at the 15:55 mark on a Rhodes basket. The Bobcats closed to within 56-48 with 8:18 remaining on a Kati Burrows lay-up. However, the Lumberjacks answered with an 8-2 run capped by an old-fashion three-point play by Tolbert.
Montana State made one final push and cut the deficit to 68-60 at the 2:22 mark on another Burrows basket, put NAU closed out the game on a 9-2 run.
Leading the Bobcats was Burrows with 21 points and six rebounds, while senior Sheila Hutchison chipped in 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
For the game, Northern Arizona shot 49 percent from the field, including a red-hot 57 percent in the first half. MSU shot 39 percent for the game and was 33 percent from the floor in the second stanza.
NAU held a 37-33 advantage under the boards and were paced by Laura Dinkins, who pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
MSU will play at Eastern Washington on Thursday.
