Bobcat Women Look for First Big Sky Win on Thursday Night

On The Air:
For the second straight season Dave Cowan will handle play-by-play duties of ALL regular and postseason Bobcat games on KSCY 96.7 (The Sky) FM. Cowan will begin his broadcast with a pre-game show 20-minutes prior to tip.
On The Clock:
The Bobcat women’s basketball team will be looking for its first Big Sky Conference victory of the season when they host Sacramento State and Northern Arizona this weekend in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Both Sacramento State and NAU sit one game ahead of the Bobcats in the standings. MSU is also looking to put an end to a three-game losing streak. The last time a Bobcat team opened the season 0-3 was during the 2000 campaign, when the Frank McCarthy squad dropped its first four games.
Scouting The Opponents:
Sacramento State is 1-16 overall and 1-3 in Big Sky play. The Hornets lone win came in its Big Sky opener at Portland State (56-50). Last season, Sac State ended MSU’s 23-game home court win streak with a 62-60 victory. The Hornets are under the direction of first-year coach Dan Muscatell, who served as an assistant at Oregon last winter. On the court, Sac State is led by Tyeisha Brown, a 5-foot-8 guard from Vallejo, Calif. Brown is averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in league action. Northern Arizona, who plays at Montana before traveling to Bozeman, is also under the direction of a new coach. Laurie Kelly has led the ‘Jacks to a 7-9 overall mark and a 1-3 BSC ledger. The Lumberjacks have been paced this season by Alyssa Wahl and Lacey Tolbert. The duo is averaging 14.1 and 11.1 points, respectively.

Montana State Player of the Week:
Junior Jana Smith, a 5-foot-7 guard from Ronan, Mont., has been named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her effort against Montana on Friday night. Smith ended the game with a team-high 12 points, while adding seven rebounds and two steals in 39 minutes of action. Smith scored half (nine) of MSU’s points in the first stanza. For the game, she shot five-of-15 from the field, with one trey.
