“Foul trouble and shooting were the story of the game,” said MSU head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “However, I did think our effort was much better than the Weber State game. We just need to start knocking down some shots.”
Montana State (8-7, 0-2) was paced in the loss by Kati Burrows with 15 points and seven rebounds. Also in double-digits for the Bobcats were Belinda Stubbs and Jaimey Tanner with 12 and 11 points, apiece. Stubbs, Sheila Hutchison and Whitney Connolly all fouled out of the game.
Idaho State (9-5, 1-1), who possesses the Big Sky’s most potent offense, rallied from an early deficit in the first period with a 10-3 run sparked by Monika Marekova’s five points. Whitley’s turn around jumper as the buzzer sounded to give the Bengals a 34-25 halftime advantage.
In the second stanza, Idaho State opened on an 11-6 run and never relinquished its double-digit margin. MSU shot 44 percent from the field in the second stanza and converted 14-of-16 from the line. The Bobcats also out-rebounded ISU 36-34.
MSU will host Montana on Friday night in Worthington Arena.
