Montana State Women Rally to Down Utah Valley in Overtime

Trailing by 13 points with 3:26 remaining in regulation, Montana State (8-5) point-guard Jaimey Tanner knocked down a pair of three-pointers, while Hutchison added two free throws with 28-seconds remaining to force overtime.
“I don’t care how ugly it was, a win is a win,” said MSU head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “I was very pleased with our defensive effort and our rebounding in the second half. The kids battled the whole game, and they really dug in the final three minutes of regulation.”
Utah Valley State (6-10) held a 31-24 halftime advantage and owned a commanding 23-12 advantage on the boards. In the second stanza, MSU out-rebounded the Wolverines 30-20 and forced UVSC into 14 second half turnovers.
“We received great efforts from a number of kids,” Potera-Haskins said. “(Sheila Hutchison) Hutch, Briana Fields, Joanna Hixon really gave us a spark in the second half. Our defense set the tone for our offense.”
Also in double-digits for the Bobcats was Kati Burrows with 14 points. Hixon, a freshman from Reno, Nevada, ended the game with seven points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
Utah Valley State was paced in the loss by Miriam Palkki with 14 points, while teammate Katie Wilson added a team-high ten rebounds.
The Bobcats will open Big Sky Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 15 at Weber State.
