THE HOME OPENER:
The Montana State volleyball squad will open its 2003 home season hosting the 9th annual Mizuno-Holiday Inn Classic this weekend in Shroyer Gym. Play will begin on Friday, Sept. 5 as Utah State meets Alabama at 5 p.m., followed by MSU and #14 Kansas State at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, MSU will face Utah State at 10 a.m., followed by Kansas State vs. Alabama 12 noon, Utah State and Kansas State 5 p.m., and Alabama vs. Montana State at 7:30 p.m.

REWRAPPING THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Montana State opened the Miya Malauulu era of Bobcat volleyball with a 2-1 mark at the Missouri-Quality Inn Tiger Invitational last weekend in Columbia. The ‘Cats finished second in the tournament behind host and #21 ranked Mizzou. Arkansas and Toledo placed third and fourth, respectively. The Bobcats opened tourney play against the Tigers and dropped a 30-13, 30-16, 30-9 decision. MU recorded 17 service aces, while not giving up a reception error. The Tigers out-hit MSU .373 to .041. The Bobcats were paced in the loss by freshman Nadine Göldi with eight kills and six digs, while setter Kamber Kelly dished out 16 assists and had a team-high 16 digs. Montana State rebounded from their loss on Friday with a 30-19, 15-30, 30-25, 25-30, 15-7 win over Arkansas. The Lady Razorbacks had received 14 votes in the USA Today/AVCA Preseason Coaches poll. Once again, the ‘Cats were paced by Kelly, a junior from Roundup. Kelly ended the match with a career-high nine kills, and added 46 assists and four digs. Sophomore Meggie Malyurek led MSU with a team-high 16 kills, while Göldi added 12 and Megan Zanto 11. Four Bobcats players reached double-digit dig totals, including Natalie Paredes 16, Göldi 16, Malyurek 11 and LeAnn Kinvig 10. In its final match of the tournament, the Bobcats turned in a solid effort at the net notching 14.5 team blocks to earn a 30-21, 30-24, 21-30, 30-27 victory over Toledo. Megan Zanto guided the ‘Cats with 12 kills and seven blocks, while Göldi chipped in ten kills, 13 digs and four blocks. Back-up setter Natalie Pareded led MSU defensively with a career-high 17 digs.
MONTANA STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kamber Kelly was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her efforts at the Quality Inn Tiger Invitational. The 5-foot-9 setter averaged 8.33 assists, 2.33 digs, 1.33 kills and .58 blocks per game, en route to being named to the all-tournament team. She also hit .400 (16-2-35) from the floor to pace the ‘Cats.
