The Montana State volleyball team opened its 2003 Big Sky season with a win and a loss at home. The Bobcat’s defeated Idaho State, 3-0 on Thursday, and lost to Weber State 3-2 on Saturday. MSU is now 27-21 all-time against Idaho State, including winning seven of the last eight against the Bengals. On Saturday the Wildcats won just about every statistical category and out-hit the Bobcats .187 to .119, with 64 kills.
The Bobcats continue Big Sky Conference play against Sacramento State on Thursday, in Sacramento, CA. They will then be pitted against Northern Arizona on Saturday at Flagstaff, AZ. The Bobcats look to stay in the thick of an interesting Big Sky Conference season.

This Week: University of Montana Invitational 10/4, Missoula, Montana

The Bobcat harriers will head to Montana this weekend and run against two of the best teams in the nation. Both Montana State and Weber State are ranked 31st in the nation, while the Montana is coming off a strong performance at the Roy Graik Invitational this past weekend with an 18th place finish, five places behind Weber State. The Bobcat men will look to do well against their Big Sky Conference rivals.
The Montana State women will look to Ariana Lee for a strong performance on Saturday. Lee was named Big Sky Conference Runner of the Week, after finishing first overall at the Montana State Invitational.
Teams competing this weekend are: Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Montana, and Weber State. This meet will also serve as the official ‘Cat-Griz dual.
Football
This Week: St. Mary’s College 10/4, Moraga, CA
Last Week: Lost to Northern Colorado 10-14
Radio/Television: The game can be heard on State Farm Bobcat Radio Network stations throughout Montana (see below), and on the internet at www.msubobcats.com. There will be no television.
Montana State held Northern Colorado’s explosive offense in tow for three quarters, but a pair of scoring drives gave the Bears a 14-10 victory on Saturday.
The Bears, trailing 10-0 entering the fourth quarter, capped a 92-yard drive with a 23-yard Vincent Jackson reception with 14:54 left to play to get on the board, then won the game with a two-yard Jamar Farbes touchdown with 2:17 to play. The Bobcats had only 266 yards of total offense, including 31 in the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats will attempt to bounce back on Saturday when they face St. Mary’s College. The Gaels are 0-4 on the season.

Federico Ueltschi and Marek Gebicki will play at the biggest individual tennis tournament in the nation this Friday and continue play thru Sunday. This is the first time Montana State will be represented in this tournament. Both Ueltschi and Gebicki qualified to this invitation only tournament.

The State Farm/Riverside Bobcat Invitational that was set for September 22-23 was canceled. The Bobcat women will continue play at the University of Colorado on October 6-7, at Boulder, CO.
Teams that will be competing: Colorado, EWU, PSU, Weber State, WASU, Nevada, Hawaii, Idaho. The ‘Cats will play at Omni-Interlocken Golf Course which is 6158 yds. and par 72. MSU will play 36 holes Monday, 18 holes Tuesday.

Wednesday, Oct. 1: The Bobcast radio show, featuring MSU men's basketball player Jason Erickson, Bobcat receiver and return specialist Corey Smith, and MSU football coach Mike Kramer. The show originates from The Point After in downtown Bozeman at Main and Rouse in the Bozeman Hotel at 6 pm, and may be heard on KXLB 100.7 FM, or on the internet at www.sportsjuice.com.
