Volleyball
This Week: Idaho State University 9/25 at Bozeman; Weber State University 9/27 at Bozeman
Last Week: def. Wyoming, 3-0, def. Gonzaga, 3-0, and lost 3-1 to Marquette
Despite a 3-1 setback to Marquette on Saturday night, the Bobcats still claimed the team title of the Wingate INNvitational. Montana State opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Wyoming. Sophomore Meggie Malyurek paced the Bobcats with 12 kills and 13 digs, while hitting .417 (12-2-24) from the floor. On Saturday morning the ‘Cats handed Gonzaga a 3-0 set back. Malyurek again paced the Bobcat hitters with 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .440 (13-2-25) from the field. MSU dropped the tournament finale, losing a 30-24, 19-30, 30-21, 32-30 decision to Marquette. For the match, MSU hit a paltry .104 from the floor. Malyurek paced MSU with 15 kills and 14 digs
The Montana State volleyball team will open its 2003 Big Sky season when they host Idaho State (10-3), Thursday. MSU is 26-21 all-time against the Bengals, including winning six of the last seven against ISU. The Bobcats will conclude the weekend when they meet Weber State (3-7), on Saturday.
Cross Country
This Week: No competition
Last Week: Montana State Invitational 9/20 at Bozeman (Bridger Creek Golf Course)
The thirtieth-ranked Montana State men’s cross country team started the 2003 season with a great start as they captured the team title at the Montana State Invitational, Saturday morning on their own 5.2 mile Bridger Creek course.
The Bobcat’s tallied 23 points with the help of four top 10 individual finishers. Sophomore Kevin Clary with his aggressive running paced the Bobcat’s finishing second with a time of 25:50.39, Jonathan Gibson placed 3rd (25:58.33), Tony Bachman 5th (26:37.98), and Josh Ricardi 6th (26:49.94). Idaho State came in second with 40 points, while Utah Valley State College finished third with 84 points.
The Bobcat women also turned in an impressive season-opening performance with a runner-up finish. Bobcat runners took the top two individual places to record 51 points, finishing s18 points behind Utah Valley State College in the five-team field.
Ariana Lee led all runners with a time of 18:00.58 on the 5000 meter course. Eighteen seconds behind Lee was Mayra Morgado (18:18.68).
Next up for the Bobcat’s will be the University of Montana Invitational. The race is scheduled for October 4th.
Football
This Week: Northern Colorado 9/27 at Bozeman
Last Week: Lost to Cal Poly 24-21
The Bobcats will attempt to bounce back on Saturday, hosting ancient conference-mate Northern Colorado for MSU Wendy’s Hall of Fame weekend and Radio Network Affiliates Day. The Bears, like MSU a former member of the Rocky Mountain Conference, is a newly-minted I-AA school. The explosive Bears are 3-1 on the season, while 20th-ranked Montana State is 1-2.
Bobcat fans are urged to come early and stay late Saturday. The day begins at 10:30 am, when Bobcat Boulevard and the Family Fun Zone open. Fans of all ages will enjoy live entertainment, activities, inflatable games, and food vendors that transform Kagy Boulevard from 7th to 11th streets into Bobcat Boulevard. A half-hour after the game, the 5th Quarter begins in the Bobcat Game Day Headquarters tent on Bobcat Boulevard. Beverages will be available, along with Bobcat coach Mike Kramer, selected assistants, and several MSU players.
Tennis, Men’s

Last Week: BYU Invitational at Provo, UT
Sophomore Marek Gebicki claimed the consolation title, while Federico Veltschi advanced to the semi-finals.
The MSU men will continue play with the Bobcat Open September TBA.
Tennis, Women’s

Last Week: Cougar Classic at Pullman, Washington
MSU opened their non-traditional season on Friday and continued play through Saturday at Pullman Washington.
The Bobcat women will continue play at Eastern Washington on October 6-7, in Cheney, WA.
Golf, Women’s
This Week: State Farm/Riverside Bobcat Invite 9/22-23 CANCELLED

The State Farm/Riverside Bobcat Invitational on September 22-23 was cancelled. The Bobcat women will play at the University of Colorado on October 6-7.
