Hinzpeter, a native of Minot, ND, finished her career as one of the best to ever compete at Montana State. She currently holds two Big Sky Conference meet records (100-meters, long jump), along with most points scored in an indoor meet as well as most points scored in an indoor meet for a career.
In addition, Hinzpeter holds several Montana State records, including the 55-meters, 100-meters, 200-meters, long jump, and the 4x400 meter relay. She was MSU’s outdoor Top Gun award winner in each season she competed and capped her tenure with the Bobcats by leading Montana State to the 2003 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field title.
“Lacy Hinzpeter is one of the most impactive performers in terms of her ability to score points in duals and championships that’s ever competed for the Bobcats,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “She is truly outstanding. And, on top of being an outstanding athlete, she got the job done in the classroom. Lacy has really set the bar high for present and future athletes in our program.”
Off the track, she was an eight-time Big Sky Conference all-academic selection and was named to the USTC all-academic squad, as well. Hinzpeter graduated with honors in health promotion last spring, and is currently attending graduate school at MSU.
Hinzpeter was also involved in numerous community activities, including Young at Heart, Big Brothers/Sisters, Little Bobcat Track and Field and served on MSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory board.
The NCAA received a total of 338 nominations, including 176 from Division I institutions. A committee of representatives from member institutions selected the state winners. That same committee will also pick ten finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. The ten finalists will be named on Sept. 29.
