Despite returning just one senior, along with welcoming seven newcomers, the Montana State volleyball team was picked to finish third in the annual Big Sky Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league’s coaches.
The Bobcats, who are under the leadership of first-year head coach Miya Malauulu, garnered 35 votes in the poll. Eastern Washington was picked to place first with 48 points, followed by Sacramento State 44, MSU, Weber State 31, Portland State 20, Northern Arizona 18, Montana 16 and Idaho State 12.
“It’s flattering to be picked third,” Malauulu said. “I think it’s more of a reflection of the success of the program over the past couple of years.”
Last fall, MSU finished 21-10 overall and 10-4 in Big Sky action. The ‘Cats return four starters and five letterwinners from last season’s team.
