The Montana State track and field program capped its dream season by earning high academic honors from the US Track Coach Association, Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy has announced.
The MSU women's team finished the 2003 indoor and outdoor track and field season ranked fifth in Division I with a 3.30 grade point average, while the men's team finished 21st in the nation with a 3.21 grade point average. Team requirements include a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, which includes the GPA of all team members that competed during the season.
"This honor is very prestigious, and shows that we achieve at a high level academically as well as athletically," Kennedy said. "Our kids do an excellent job balancing those two areas of their lives."
Ten Bobcat women and two men earned individual All-Academic honors from the USTCA. Those individuals are Lindsay Gill, Erin Jones, Lisa Svaleson, Michelle Hodge, Lacy Hinzpeter, Ariana Lee, Jennifer Allen, Chrissy McKinstry, Cortney Ellis, and Wendy Lambott on the women's team, and Kevin Clary and Joel Walthall on the men's squad. Individuals need a 3.25 GPA and an NCAA provisional or regional qualifying mark to qualify.
