RB Situation Clearer for 'Cats

One of the problem areas of Montana State’s fall football became more clear on Tuesday afternoon, when Cal State Northridge transfer Bruce Molock was granted his eligibility by the NCAA.
Molock, who rushed for over 600 yards as a junior at Cal State Northridge in 2001, transferred to MSU this summer. His eligibility status was clarified by the NCAA, as was the case with Jason Nicastro and linebacker Isaac Gardner last year.
Kramer was glad to welcome Molock officially to the fold. “We had an outstanding day, because Bruce Molock officially went from being a Matador to being a Bobcat,” Kramer said. “Bruce becoming eligible and the presence of David Mayfield gives us considerable depth and makes running back a position of strength.”
Mayfield, who arrived in camp on Sunday after summer school session at a California junior college, will participate in MSU’s final scrimmage of the fall on Wednesday in shoulder pads and a helmet. Molock will compete, as well, but will wear a red jersey indicating that defensive players will not be allowed to initiate contact. “We’ll be at thud speed on Wednesday, which greatly penalizes the defense, but it’s how we’re going to do it.”
With the anticipated return of redshirt freshman Jimmy Beal this weekend, Kramer said his team will be near full strength in time to begin preparations for the Wyoming game this weekend. “Michael Williams has a shoulder (injury), and he probably won’t go (in Wednesday’s scrimmage), but we’ll be fully manned with Bruce and David and, hopefully, Jimmy.”
Kramer said Wednesday’s scrimmage, which begins at 4 pm in Bobcat Stadium, will run about 60 plays. “My greatest concern is that we stay healthy,” he said. “We need to reduce the number of guys on our depth chart who are injured. We also need to get our new starters up to speed. Those guys who we’ll be depending on to start that haven’t started before will need to display competence.”
