Fall Camp Report
Saturday - Day THIRTEEN
Practice Schedule
Sun., 8/14 - off
Mon., 8/15 - 9:30 am, 2:45pm
Tue., 8/16 - 2:45 pm
Of Interest
MSU’s freshmen quarterbacks, Rick Coppack and Cory Carpenter, were a combined 5-for-7 for 63 yards Saturday
Quips
“We have to step it up a level and finish them off. As a leader I’m pretty disappointed with that.” - Senior safety Kane Ioane, on MSU’s lone offensive TD
Countdown to Kickoff
13 days til MSU at Wyoming, 8/30
* * * DAILY NOTES * * *
* Mike Kramer had a simple message for those Bobcat players involved in the fight for playing time at tailback. “Jason’s extending himself a little at tailback, and Michael (Williams) played well at times. Those guys that are ineligible or hurt, they’d better get going.”
* David Mayfield, it appears, will be eligible to participate in practice beginning Monday, when he begins his five-day acclimation period (which prohibits him from practicing in pads).
* Bobcat tight ends accounted for only six catches last year, but Jason Goodman made a pair of impressive catches on Saturday, a day in which Blake Wolf was sidelined with an injury.
* Although scrimmage participation was thinned considerably by injuries, Kramer is not overly concerned. “We’re just dealing with fatigue injuries, camp injuries, hamstrings, groins, what not. Beau Clark’s arthroscopic knee surgery was very successful and we look for his return after the bye week. Otherwise, nothing should linger beyond next week.”
* * * SATURDAY IN CAMP * * *
Saturday's scrimmage marked the midway point of MSU's fall camp, with 13 days of practice in and 13 days left before the season opener at Wyoming... Sophomore walk-on receiver Matt McCullough, whose father was a standout tight end at MSU in the ‘70s, caught a team-high three passes in Saturday’s scrimmage, including a 36-yarder from Cory Carpenter. All three catches were for first downs... Nate Cook missed a 30-yard field goal, and EJ Cochrane drilled a 30-yarder from the left hash... Travis Lulay at one point hit five passes in a row, with all of his work coming against MSU’s first defense... Michael Williams had the day’s longest run, a 12-yarder, which was the only carry of over six yards.
