'Cat tracksters add two

Dale Kennedy entered the summer recruiting period looking for help in the distance and middle distance areas. He addressed that need on the men's and women's team Tuesday, signing a pair of prep runners.
Ryan Davis from Frenchtown and Elizabeth Woody of Sommerville, Ore., have each signed national letters-of-intent to join the MSU Track and Field squad next fall. Davis finished fifth in the state cross country championships last fall during his first season in the sport. This spring, he won the Class B 800 and finished second in the 1600. He has personal best times of 1:58.0 in the 800 and 4:28.2 in the 1600.
"Ryan has onely run trrack for two years, and cross country for one, so he has a limited training background," Kennedy said. "He really has some potential, I think he's barely scratched the surface. Ruan is a good student who wants to major in chemistry. We're only signing two young male distance runners, but Ryan and Caleb Ambrose give us two very good prospects."
Woody was third in the state AA 15000 and state 800 this spring. She has best times of 4:56.4 in the 1500, 2:21.0 in the 800, and 60.38 in the 400. "I'm real excited about signing Elizabeth," Kennedy said. "We really needed to address the middle distance area, and she does that. We'll try her in cross country and see if she can make our top seven, but she'll help us right away during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Like Ryan Davis she doesn't have an extensive track background, but she has a world of potential."
