Weese advances to steeplechase finals

Weese will run late Friday in the steeplechase finals. His mark of 8:36.87 was a school record, and was the second-fastest qualifying time. The Dillon native finished behind only two-time defending champion Dan Lincoln of Arkansas, who set the pace with a mark of 8:36.08.
Weese's performance was the highlight of the day for MSU athletes who qualified for the NCAA meet. Senior Carrie Damschen was disqualified from the 400 hurdles for a technical violation, junior Jonathan Gibson fell in the steeplechase trials and finished missed the finals with a mark of 9:08.89. Junior Ari Lee ran the 5,000 meters in 16:45.21, falling nine seconds short of qualifying for the finals.
Lee and Casey Jermyn will run in the women's and men's 10,000 meter races, respectively, late Thursday. Weese will run in the steeplechase finals Friday night with a chance to become the second Bobcat ever to earn All-America honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track in the same academic year, and Jen Allen and Chrissy McKinstry will compete in the hammer throw on Saturday.
