Former Bobcat volleyball standout named assistant coach

Carper, who played at Montana State from 1996-99, is currently in management training in Denver. Following graduation from MSU in 2000 with a degree in media and theatre arts, Carper played professionally in Europe for numerous club teams.
In addition, she worked for BringitUSA Promotions and traveled throughout Europe filming interviews and game footage of professional volleyball players and coaches. She also created recruiting videos for Universities in the United States.
"Cori (Carper) will be a great addition to our program," Malauulu said. "As a student-athlete at MSU, she possessed a work ethic and attitude that I want all our student-athletes to emulate.
"Cori also played an integral role in bringing the Bobcat volleyball program back to the top of the Big Sky Conference during her playing career," Malauulu continued. "She was well liked by her teammates and by the fans of MSU volleyball. Cori also has strong ties within the state of Montana by virtue of her summer camp experiences."
As a player, Carper guided the Bobcats to a 76-40 mark during her tenure in the Blue and Gold. She was also a part of four consecutive winning seasons, two 20-win campaigns and four straight appearances in the Big Sky Conference tournament. For her efforts, she was a two-time All-Big Sky Conference performer and was the 1999-2000 Bobcat Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year.
Carper is one of 12 Bobcat players to reach the 1,000 kill plateau at MSU. She is also ranked among the top five all-time in hitting percentage and blocks. Carper is also fifth on the all-time Big Sky Conference career hitting percentage chart, as well. The native of Lander, Wyo., also holds the school record for best hitting percentage in a match when she notched an .824 attack mark against Virginia Commonwealth in 1996.
"It’s like coming home," Carper said. "I played for Miya and Jerry (Wagner, associate head coach), along with Dave Gantt, and they provided me a great atmosphere to be a student-athlete. They treated me like family.
"I’m very excited about this opportunity," Carper said. "The program has continued to get better every year and its one of the best models of success in the region. I’m ready to help continue that tradition and develop great student-athletes."
She will be responsible for the Bobcat Summer Camps and will assist in recruiting, practice design and match strategies, video exchange and other administrative duties. Carper will also coach the Bobcat middle blockers and will serve as tournament director of the Mizuno-Holiday Inn Classic.
Carper will begin her duties in March.
