Munteanu Finishes Ninth at NCAA West Regional

Munteanu will learn later this week whether or not she has qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 5-8 in Hanover, NH. Munteanu has three top ten finishes this season, despite being sidelined for three weeks with an illness.
Sophie Ormond of Denver won the race with a combined time of 2:05.07. Also contributing for the Bobcats were Hilary Turner, 25, 2:18.30; and Polly Hopkins, 31, 2:22.63. Andrea Drew did not complete the second run for the Bobcats.
In nordic competition, the Bobcats were paced by Emily Robins in the 10-kilometer classic race. Robins placed 18th overall with a time of 37.02. She was followed by Kristine Kleedehn, 25, 39:07; Charis Gullickson, 26, 39:33; Syverine Abrahamson, 30, 40:48.6; and Lisa Erikson, 32, 42:14.
Utah’s Katrin Smigun won the women’s classic crown with a time of 32:17.
Utah won the NCAA West Regional team title with 581 points, followed by Colorado 563, Denver, 541.5, New Mexico 439, Alaska-Anchorage 414.5, Nevada 389, Western State 298, Whitman 232 and MSU 134.
Scores are based on a combined men’s and women’s point system. Montana State does not have a men’s varsity program.
