Bobcat Women Travel to Arizona State-Wells Fargo Classic

THE VITALS:
The Montana State women’s basketball squad will take to the road for the Wells Fargo Holiday Classic hosted by Arizona State. MSU will face Binghamton on Friday at 8p.m. and will play either the Sun Devils or Western Michigan on Saturday. The consolation game is slated for 4 p.m., with the Wells Fargo championship game to tip at 6:30 p.m. in Tempe.

For the second straight season Dave Cowan will handle play-by-play duties of ALL regular and postseason Bobcat games on KSCY 96.7 (The Sky) FM.
WELLS FARGO HOLIDAY CLASSIC:
Montana State will play in the Arizona State-Wells Fargo Holiday Classic this weekend in Tempe. MSU is coming off a 91-45 victory over Montana Tech on Tuesday night. For only the fourth time in Bobcat women’s basketball history, MSU has stormed out to a 5-0 mark to begin a season. Last year, the ‘Cats jumped out to a 5-0 start as well, before ending the streak with a loss to DePaul. The 1987-88 team, under the direction of Gary Schwartz, won its first 17 games of the season for the all-time MSU mark. Also competing this weekend at the Wells Fargo Classic are Binghamton University, Binghamton, New York; Arizona State and Western Michigan, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Montana State’s first-round opponent this weekend is Binghamton University. The Bearcats are currently 3-1 overall with victories over St. John’s, Hofstra and North Texas. Their lone setback was a 66-59 decision to Syracuse. Binghamton has been led in the early going by Rachel Laws and Leala Wegwerth. The duo averaged 11.8 and 11 points, respectively. Last season, the Bearcats notched a 10-17 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the America East Conference. Arizona State is 2-2 overall, after dropping a pair of games at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas last weekend. However, one of the Sun Devils’ losses was a 59-50 decision to No. 13 Kansas State. ASU is paced this season by Betsy Boardman, who is averaging 11.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing. Western Michigan is currently 2-2 overall with wins over UMKC and Illinois State and losses to No. 1 UConn and Michigan. The Broncos are led by Casey Rost, who is averaging 19.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
MONTANA STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Montana State senior Sheila Hutchison was named MSU’s Player of the Week after leading the Bobcats to a 2-0 mark at the Texas State-CenturyTel Classic last weekend. Hutch averaged 20.5 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals, while shooting an impressive 62 percent from the field and 81 percent from the charity stripe.
