Bobcats Top Morgan State

Matt Towsley didn't look like a man with a back problem on Monday. Montana State's junior center was 6-for-7 from the field, scored a game-high 18 points, and grabbed a team-high five rebounds to lead the Bobcats to an 81-57 win over Morgan State in the first round of the Holiday Stores Big R Classic in Bozeman on Monday.
"I thought it'd be like his first couple of games when he was excited and antsy," said MSU coach Mick Durham. "But he played well. I thought he gave us a huge presence in the middle offensively and defensively." Towsley shot 85.6% from the floor, the fifth-best mark in tournament history, and MSU's 59.2% shooting night was the tournament's third-best mark.
The game remained close throughout the first half. MSU led 35-28 at the intermission, but blew the game open with a 10-0 run beginning with a Matt Towsley free throw with 15:13 to play and followed by baskets by three different Bobcats. "I expected a tough ball game, and at the half we were in a tight game. We broke it open with a spurt in the second half."
Guards Frank Brown and Jason Erickson once again fueled MSU. Erickson had 17 points, four assists and two steals, while Brown had six assists and a pair of steals.
With the win, MSU is now 5-5 on the season, while Morgan State falls to 1-6. The Bobcats play Western Carolina (6-3) in the tournament's championship game, while Morgan State and Southeastern Louisiana play in the consolation game at 5:35 pm.
