Montoya Caps Magnificent Career

Montana State defensive end Jon Montoya watched his senior season end in the first round of this year's I-AA Playoffs in a 35-14 loss to Northern Iowa.
That's not where his career ended, though. Montoya's career became complete this week, when he capped a sensational career as a student-athlete by earning All-Scholar honors from the Division I-AA Athletic Directors Association. Earlier this month, Montoya was named First Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
"Jon Montoya is one of the finest examples of what a student-athlete should be," said MSU coach Mike Kramer. "He was magnificent on the field, he was spectacular in the classroom, and he impacted a great many lives during his five years at Montana State in a very positive way. These are fitting and appropriate honors for Jon Montoya."
Montoya was named one of the 25 top academic and athletic performers in Division I-AA football this week, joining Bobcat quarterback Travis Lulay. By earning First Team Academic All-America honors, Montoya becomes the second Bobcat named to the first team twice in his career (Ryan Johnson was a three-time First Team selection). This also marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Bobcats have had a First Team Academic All-America, the only Big Sky school with a current string that long. Montoya was the Big Sky's only first team choice this year.
