“We just couldn’t get anything going in the first half,” said MSU head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “(Zagurskyte) was almost unstoppable and that set the tone for the rest of the game.”
Montana State (7-4) was led in the loss by Belinda Stubbs with 13 points. For the game, the Bobcats shot 21 percent from the field and went zero-of-14 from three-point range. It marked the first time this season that the Bobcats did not convert from long range.
UTEP also held a commanding 56-31 under the boards. Dydek led the Miners with nine rebounds, while Sheila Hutchison guided the Bobcats with seven.
In the first stanza, Stubbs gave the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead on a baseline drive in the opening seconds, before Zagurskyte notched 11 straight points to put the Miners up 11-4 at the 15:25 mark.
UTEP took a 20-point advantage with four minutes remaining in the half, before back-to-back lay-ups by Nina Sanford and Hutchison closed the margin to 36-20 at the 2:40 mark. The Miners closed out the half with a 5-0 run to enter intermission with a 41-20 advantage.
Montana State will host Brigham Young University on Jan. 6.
