Bobcats Drop Mary

Bobcat basketball was on guard Monday night. More accurately, it was all about guards.
Senior guard Jason Erickson scored 18 points, and sophomore backcourt-mate Frank Brown added a career-high 20, to lead MSU to an 86-52 win over NAIA foe Mary. The two combined to shoot 15-for-27, including 4-for-9 from three-point range, and added eight assists and seven steals, as the Bobcats snapped a four-game losing streak.
"I thought Jason and Frank were outstanding," said MSU coach Mick Durham. "We challenged them a little bit this week because Mary has a couple of guards that can really score. I thought they did a nice job on both ends of the floor."
The Bobcats jumped on top early, racing to a 17-2 lead in the first four-and-a-half minutes of the game. Mary didn't get closer than 18 points in the last 24 minutes. Brown scored five of MSU's first nine points, and Erickson scored the other four.
Chuck Archambault scored 16 points to lead Mary, and Jamaal Smith added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Dissly scored 15 points and nabbed three steals. Erickson had six steals and four assists, and Brown added four assists.
MSU hosts the Holiday Stores Big R Classic on December 29-30, featuring Morgan State, Western Carolina and Southeastern Louisiana.
